Greenlandic Library Identifiers

A library identifier is a 6 digit number assigned by Nunatta Atuagaateqarfia (Greenlandic National Library).

For public libraries the identifier consists of the digit 1 + 2 digits identifying the municipality + 1 digit defining the town + 2 digits defining the branch library. ”The Main Library” has serial number 00. The branches are numbered consecutively.

For Kujataa, Qaqortoq is ”main library”: 121000                                                

For East-West, Nuuk – Nunatta Atuagaateqarfia is ”main library”: 111000

For Qeqqa, Sisimiut is ”main library”: 131000

For Avannaa, Ilulissat is ”main library”: 141000

For school libraries the identifier consists of the digit 8 + 2 digits defining the municipality + 1 digit defining the town + 2 digits defining the individual school library. A common institution for school libraries will be assigned the serial number 000.

Inerisaavik is a common institution for municipal primary and lower secondary schools and educational institutions: 811000
Example: Municipal primary and lower secondary school in Narsaq: 821210

For research libraries the identifier consists of the digit 9 + 3 digits + 2 digits identifying the branch library.

Example: Ilimmarfik (University of Greenland): 910000

Example: Peqqissaanermik Ilinniarfik (Centre for Health Education): 910001

Numbers assigned by the Danish Bibliographic Centre are user codes for the national union catalogue DanBib and are not related to the Greenlandic library identifiers.
